Pioneering the field of television cooking shows, Julia Child's classic television series, The French Chef debuted on PBS in February of 1963. It introduced Julia's enthusiastic cooking style to thousands of home chefs across the county. From there it revolutionized the industry of new and thriving cooking shows now being aired all over the world, including the birth and success of The Food Channel.
To help celebrate Julia's long running series, The American Institute of Wine & Food (AIWF) Northern California Chapter is proud to sponsor a rare and historic viewing of the first episode, "Boeuf Bourguignon," featuring Julia preparing the "best stew known to man," courtesy of WGBH Boston.
Following this viewing, the acclaimed chef at The City Club, Chef Brian Lennon, will prepare this reminiscent meal, based on the instructions provided on the show. Guests will enjoy a special 4-course dinner prepared with contributions of beef from Niman Ranch, and paired with Burgundy wines courtesy of Martine's Wines, Inc. The evening will conclude with a tribute toast to Julia's 91st Birthday, which will occur just days before this event.
The AIWF/NorCal Chapter is one of more than 21 chapters from throughout the country sponsoring similar events fundraising events to celebrate this anniversary. All proceeds will benefit Julia's AIWF Wine and Food History and Preservation Fund and the NorCal Chapter Scholarship Fund.
