GREEK TAVERNA

AUTHENTIC GREEK FOOD, WONDERFUL WINES, LIVE GREEK MUSIC AND GREEK DANCING!

OPAA!!

Bring friends and join fellow AIWFers for a few rousing and rollicking Greekhours.  Call it Greek night.  You will think you are on one of the Greek islands such as Mykonos, Santorini or Crete.

Wine aficionados will taste wines and learn from two leaders in our community. They are Achilles Lolonis and Michael Topolos both from Northern California families of Greek heritage, both of whose grapes are grown organically, and whose wines were served at a White House dinner in honor of the President of Greece.

The wine reception will feature a variety of mezzes including Saganaki (kasseri cheese flambéd with brandy and a touch of lemon) and ourstanding Tiropitas, Spanakopita, and Tarama Salata. Dinner will feature Skorthalia Dip with pita, Greek Village salad, Mousaka, Boureki (offered rarely outside Of Greece, made of layers of potatoes, tomatoes, onions, zucchini, feta and fresh mint), Chicken Corfu (diced chicken with pine nuts, raisins, celery, mint, and feta in phyllo).  And for desert, traditional Baklava.

About Minerva Café: Originally opened on Eddy Street in 1934, it was purchased by Vasilios Glimidakis in 1961. It was popular with the famous, including president Kennedy and all the mayors of San Francisco. It closed in 1978 and reopened last year, bringing back the old traditions and recipes of this historic restaurant.
