Spring is here, and once again our thoughts turn to lighter Asian fare and floral, fragrant, chilled sake. This year’s Sake Experience will be on Sunday, May 1st. It will be our fourth Sake Experience in as many years, and as in the past we will be holding it at the celebrated Sushi Ran Restaurant in Sausalito. So join us as we say "Kanpai!" to May Day.
As with past events we will sample new sakes especially selected for us by Sushi Ran’s owner Yoshi Tome and NorCal Board member Sharona Kitahara. We will also be adding new dishes to an already outstanding selection of cooked, raw and vegetarian fare.
We'll enjoy 7 delicious sake brews, with many of your favorite Sushi Ran dishes, including Sushi Ran’s famous Vietnamese Shaking Beef, Sautéed Shiitake Mushrooms, interesting cold salads, mixed tempura and a variety of sashimi and rolls… and more. You're guaranteed to find a new favorite among the offerings!
You will also enjoy demonstrations of Japanese arts, talks by sake experts, authentic Japanese koto and flute music, and other cultural surprises. Gorgeous antique kimonos, objets d’art, bottles of sake, gift certificates and more will be featured in our annual drawing. And if you didn't win anything last time, this may be your year may take some gorgeous Asian artifacts home with you.
All in all this year’s event promises to be an enhanced version of our very successful past Sake Experiences.
We will enjoy Yoshi san's excellent imported sake in his unique wine bar and patio, right next to the restaurant. While it is a comfortable and elegant space, this will be predominantly a stand-up event. Limited seating will be available.
As a special service to our members and guests, Sushi Ran has agreed to hold a limited number of dinner reservations immediately following the sake tasting. These much-coveted reservations will be assigned to our first 20 guests who phone Sushi Ran (415-332-3620). You must mention that you will be attending the AIWF Sake Experience. There is also first come, first seated, space at Sushi Ran's sushi bar. So make your reservation for this unusual event early, and don't forget to call to arrange your dinner reservations.
The charge for the sake tasting will be $65 for members and $70 for guests. This, of course, does not include your dinner, should you choose to stay after the sake event. The space is very limited, and we will surely sell out, as we did the past three years, so please RSVP as soon as possible!
Sushi Ran is recognized as one of the best sushi bars in the Bay Area, both by critics and local sushi eaters. The restaurant is a long-time favorite of sushi lovers from far and wide. It gained its reputation by consistently providing the freshest and highest quality sushi and a wide range of Asian-inspired foods in a cozy and friendly setting.
